Kyle Rhea cable replacement
The Kyle Rhea proposed closure for 20 individual days in Quarter 3 2026 to allow the overhead powerlines to be replaced has been postponed till at least 2027 but probably 2028. This is welcome news for all marine users of the channel and will avoid delays or a very long detour. WHAM have acknowledged that the work is essential but were concerned at the lack of detail and information from SSE on when and how they were going to close Kyle Rhea to all marine traffic when they were carrying out the work. As a result of our persistence and working with other agencies, we have now established a contact in SSE and they have committed to more dialogue ahead of the future closure programme. This will allow better and timely information to be distributed so that marine users are aware (with adequate notice) of closure times.
